This brand new, state of the art terminal is a joint venture between Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited (P&H) and GrainsConnect Canada Operations Inc. (GrainsConnect) and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2022.

Our owners are investing in assets such as FGT to continue building on growth trajectory.
Both partner companies in FGT have demonstrated their commitment to the growth of Canadian overseas markets by making significant investments in resources to efficiently export Canadian farmer’s grain and specialty product exports and contributing to the world’s food supply chain.

About the Role

Fraser Grain Terminal is seeking an experienced Operations Supervisor to lead and manage terminal operations. This role is critical in ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant grain handling while supervising unionized staff and exercising full management authority under the Canada Labour Code.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Staff Management
    • Supervise unionized employees, including task assignment, performance monitoring, and adherence to safety standards.
    • Approve overtime, manage staffing levels, and conduct performance evaluations as needed.
    • Recommend hiring, termination, and promotions.
    • Investigate, conduct, performance and safety incidents, and implement coaching and/or discipline, as appropriate.
  • Labour Relations
    • Interpret and apply the collective agreement in daily operations. o Represent the employer in grievance meetings and labour-management discussions.
    • Participate in union negotiations as part of the management team when required.
  • Operational Oversight
    • Plan and prioritize daily operations for rail, vessel, and container loading.
    • Make independent decisions on product allocation, grade overrides, and storage strategies.
    • Lead emergency response and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Policy & Compliance
    • Enforce company policies, procedures, safety standards, and food quality requirements.
    • Develop and implement Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    • Represent the employer in safety committee meetings and investigations.
  • Financial & Resource Management
    • Monitor operational budgets and control costs related to demurrage and resource utilization.
    • Approve operational expenditures within delegated authority.
  • Strategic Contribution
    • Participate in operational planning and provide input on process improvements.
    • Lead root cause analysis for quality and productivity issues and implement corrective measures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years in grain handling or industrial operations.
  • Proven leadership experience supervising unionized staff.
  • Strong knowledge of Canada Labour Code compliance, safety regulations, and collective agreements.
  • Excellent decision-making, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
