P&H is the largest Canadian-owned milling company. The P&H Milling Group sources wheat from Western Canada, Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada to produce quality flour and cereal products. The lineup includes hard red spring wheat flour for breads and other bakery products, soft winter wheat flour for cakes and cookies, as well as semolina flour for pasta, organic flour, and atta flour for chappati. In our specialty milling operation in Saskatoon, we also mill pea fractions.From its mills in Halifax, Nova Scotia; Acton, Hanover, Hamilton, and Cambridge, Ontario; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Lethbridge, Alberta, the P&H Milling Group supplies flour to customers throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Iceland, and Pacific Rim countries.
Your Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Laboratory Technician will be responsible for performing lab testing and analysis and recording the overall results to ensure compliance with our Quality Programs and product specification. They will provide a full range of support and assistance to Quality Assurance Department which includes but not limited to Research and Development, inspections, documentation and effective coordination with the QA Manager or other Department Supervisors/Personnel as required.Day to Day
Shift: 7:30am – 4pm with a Saturday shift every fourth weekendContract Duration: 6 Months
- Conduct wheat and flour testing to ensure quality and safety meet specifications.
- Verify in-process testing results from Process Operators.
- Regularly monitor product quality, troubleshoot, and apply corrective actions.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment.
- Issue customer documents like Certificates of Analysis and Product Specifications.
- Prepare and submit samples for external lab testing and maintain control sample records.
- Ensure documentation complies with company policies and procedures.
- Report testing results to the QA Manager and relevant staff.
- Support quality program maintenance, including reviews, updates, and corrective actions.
- Maintain the Supplier Approval program.
- Assist with third-party audits.
- Collaborate with Production and Office Staff on analysis and documentation.
- Assist with traceability exercises, mock recalls, audits, and customer inquiries.
Required Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related fields or equivalent training and experience.
- Basic knowledge of CFIA, SFCR and GFSI requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- Able to stand long hours, walk and climb stairs.
- Able to lift up to 22.7 kg (50 lb) when required.
- Flexible to work occasional overtimes and weekends if required.
